Axle, CV Joint & Wheel Bearing Repair
Clicking in turns, grease on the inside of the wheel, or a hum that gets louder with speed? It's likely an axle or wheel bearing. We'll pin it down.
Axles transfer power to the wheels and, on many vehicles, carry the vehicle's weight through the wheel bearings. Front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive cars use CV (constant velocity) axles; trucks use solid axle shafts in the rear and, on 4x4s, CV axles or solid front axles with U-joints.
Signs of axle or bearing problems
- Clicking or popping when turning, especially in parking lots (outer CV joint)
- A torn CV boot with grease slung around the inside of the wheel
- Vibration during acceleration
- Humming, growling or roaring that changes with speed or when turning (wheel bearing)
- ABS light, since many hub assemblies include the wheel speed sensor
- Gear oil leaking at a rear wheel (axle seal)
What we do
- CV axle replacement and CV boot checks
- Front and rear wheel bearing and hub assembly replacement
- Rear axle shaft, bearing and seal replacement
- 4x4 front axle U-joints and front hub work
- Diagnosis of related noises from tires, brakes or suspension so the right part gets replaced
Trucks and diesels
Heavy-duty trucks carry a lot of weight on their front hubs, and the extra weight of a diesel engine over the front axle wears hub bearings and front U-joints. We work on axles and hubs for cars, SUVs and gas and diesel trucks. For the rest of the driveline, see drivetrain and differentials.
Great service. Took time to understand my concern and was thorough to get it fixed.
