Along with the everyday cars, SUVs and gas trucks we see every day, diesel work is one of our strengths. We work on diesel pickups, work vans and fleet diesels, from 1990s 7.3L and 12-valve trucks to late-model heavy-duty pickups with full emissions equipment. Diesel owners around Oak Grove, Grain Valley, Blue Springs and Odessa come to us because we diagnose before we replace anything. (Also have a gas car or SUV at home? Bring that one too. See all services.)

Signs your diesel needs attention

  • Hard starting or no-start, especially on cold mornings
  • Coolant loss, overheating when towing, or temperature climbing on hills
  • White, blue or excessive black smoke
  • Loss of power, limp mode, or a turbo that doesn't spool like it used to
  • Rough idle, misses or knocking
  • Frequent DPF regenerations, DEF warnings or a countdown to reduced speed
  • Fuel in the oil, oil in the coolant, or a rising oil level on the dipstick

What we do

Diagnostics that go past the code. A code tells you which system is unhappy, not which part failed. We look at live data, test the suspect components and check the basics (fuel supply, air, wiring) before recommending parts. That's how you avoid paying for an injector when the real problem was a weak lift pump.

Cooling systems. Radiators, water pumps, thermostats, fan clutches, EGR coolers and oil coolers. Cooling problems are common on hard-working diesels, and expensive to ignore.

Fuel systems. Lift pumps, fuel filters and water separators, injectors, high-pressure pumps and fuel pressure problems. See fuel system repair.

Air and turbo. Boost leaks, sticking variable-geometry turbos, intercooler boots and sensors.

Emissions systems. EGR valves and coolers, DPF regeneration problems, DEF pumps and heaters, and NOx sensors. We repair these systems so your truck runs right and stays compliant.

The rest of the truck. Heavy-duty brakes, front-end and steering work, driveshafts and differentials, transmissions, A/C and electrical, including dual-battery setups.

Diesel maintenance that pays off

Diesels are tough, but they punish skipped maintenance. Regular oil changes with the correct diesel-rated oil, fuel filter changes on schedule, coolant that's tested rather than guessed at, and clean air filters prevent a lot of the big repairs we see. Before winter, have your batteries, glow plugs or grid heater and block heater checked, and use a quality anti-gel additive when temperatures drop.
