Electrical problems frustrate owners and shops alike, because the symptom and the cause are often in different places. A bad ground can make a gauge read wrong, a chafed wire can make a warning light come and go, and a module that won't go to sleep can kill a battery overnight. Finding those takes patience and methodical testing, not guesswork.

Signs of an electrical problem

  • Battery goes dead after sitting (a parasitic draw)
  • Slow cranking, clicking or intermittent no-start
  • Dim or flickering lights
  • Speedometer, tachometer or other gauges that are dead, erratic or wrong
  • Power windows, locks, mirrors or seats that stop working
  • Warning lights that come and go
  • Blown fuses that keep blowing

What we repair

  • Wiring and connectors: chafed, corroded or rodent-damaged harnesses
  • Starting and charging: see alternator, battery and charging
  • Sensors and modules: wheel speed and vehicle speed sensors, position sensors and communication faults
  • Gauges and speedometers: sensor, wiring and instrument cluster diagnosis
  • Power accessories: windows, locks, mirrors and seats (one customer's driver's seat got a new lease on life here)
  • Lighting and trailer wiring: see lights and trailer wiring

Gas, diesel, trucks and trailers

Diesel trucks bring dual batteries, glow plug or grid heater circuits and a lot of emissions sensors. Work trucks often have added lighting, upfitter switches and trailer wiring that take a beating. We work on all of it, on gas and diesel vehicles.

We keep you posted as we go, and we'll be straight with you about what the diagnosis is costing and whether a problem is worth chasing further.

Electrical FAQ

My speedometer stopped working. Is that electrical?

Usually, yes. It's often a vehicle speed or wheel speed sensor, wiring, or the instrument cluster. We test to find which one before replacing anything.

Why does my battery keep dying?

It could be a worn battery, a charging problem, or something drawing power with the key off. We test all three to find the cause.
